Welcome
to Ocean Aware
As seen on TV3's Campbell Live, 31st
August 2009. "Questions surround DOC's poison drops"
I have recently seen the latest version of the Graf boys DVD - "Poisoning Paradise, Ecocide NZ".
This is an incredible film and needs to be seen by all of NZ. Please
call/email TV3 and ask that they show it. As I was told: "it is all
about the ratings".
Enough requests and they will air it!!

Ocean Aware is based on beautiful Waiheke Island in the Hauraki
Gulf, New Zealand.
Ocean Aware aims to encourage a regional, national and
international network to raise awareness on marine pollution issues.
Recently the Hauraki Gulf was the stage of a major pest control operation by the Department of Conservation. This consisted of x 3 bait drops by helicopter onto Rangitoto and Motutapu islands. The bait was brodifacoum a 2nd generation anti-coagulant largely used for rodent control.
The use of brodifacoum and far less potent earlier 1st generation baits have been the cause of numerous non-target species deaths wherever these products have been used. Brodifacoum has been banned for sale for domestic use in the USA (2008), the UK and Europe. This is because of the high number of deaths and severe poisonings of children, pets and livestock.
Ocean Aware will be updating this website with scientific papers and findings on Brodifacoum and other poisons that contaminate waterways and ecosystems.
